mid-week jam session

when people mention their essential song or artist for the summer time only one band pops up in my head and that's animal collective. i remember being introduced this eccentric group in 2007 and the first song i heard was "Peacebone", from their album Strawberry Jam, the only thing that was going through my head was "what is this noise?" 3 years later and after owning all of their albums they are one of my beloved and favorite bands. animal collective has a rugged sound that is amazingly groundbreaking. you can listen to any song by them and get a good sense of who they are and their musical identity. Their songs are incredibly imaginative and creative. This particular album has a lot of experimental and refreshing sounds. Its skewed, psychedelic pop with accessible, catchy melodies just grab you after every verse and beat. This band is totally worth listening if you don't like it at first like me, give it a couple of listens, it takes a while to get it if you aren't familiar with animal collective.

what to wear: park

park
despite reports of crazy thunderstorms and nasty humidity nothing can stop me from going to park and just relaxing. so i took my chances and went out to catch up on the latest news stand magazines and the weather couldn't have been better. even though I'm about ten shades darker it was worth it. as i was sitting enjoying the summer air i started thinking of future park outfits so next time i can be a bit prepared for whatever wacky weather came my way. my ideal outfit are some comfy skinny jeans for a nice game of Frisbee or a nice walk, a breezy blouse and accessorize it with fab sandals, cool shades and a fun hat and of the course a chic saddle bag to seal this summer outfit.

orange cup

a good day to me is finding out about new places that i never had a clue about. well today was a pretty good day. after lunch with one of my best girl friends she took me to this amazing yogurt place called orangecup. when we pulled up to the place the whole environment just had me grinning from ear to ear. as you walk in it feels you're walking on top of a cloud the place is so pure and white. the frozen yogurt itself is light, smooth and totally healthy. you can also add as many toppings you'd like and they are also perfect for the complete health nut. they also print out your order with all the nutritional content on the side of your bowl. i will definitely be coming back here on weekends.

(just a few of the yummy toppings)

(each booth has their own ipod docking station)

(adorable poster that looked so refreshing)

(i ordered the natural with strawberries and dark chocolate)

mid-week jam session

i recently just made my workout more hardcore than what it usually is so i can get ready for bikini season. any time i feel like giving up or i can't make it i just put on tobacco and everything gets so much easier. this psychedelic, electronic indie pop sound just takes over my whole body and just pushes me to go further. this particular album is just great for anything. whether your working out and pushing it to the limit or it could be peaceful droning background noise while your cruising late night in your car or doing something else.

racing stripes

Pants: Old Navy Shirt: Target Wedges: Old Navy

lately the weather here has been so UGH! on my day off from work i decided to venture out in this twisted, confused southern weather to the mall and to the university to talk to an advisor about classes. since i didn't want to spend my day with soaking wet pants i figured rolled up carpi's was the way to go. sad thing is i spent so much time at the mall i didn't even make to up to the school to talk to anyone, but at least i looked good ;]

summer nails

on a daily basis i am always stopped and asked about what color my nails are or where i got my nail polish at. i love love love nail polish! every week my nail color changes. i cant walk into a store without going into the nail section. i realized i had an addiction when i went into ULTA and everybody knew my name. i want to share with you my 5 favorite colors that are just perfect for this summer and that are totally affordable for all the cheap chicas out there.

(just one of my bags that hold my nail polish)

tuna salad

lately ive been craving different types of salads. spinach salads, chicken salads even potato salads but nothing seemed to satisfy my craving. so i decided to take matters into my own hands and make the perfect summer meal. since i have a million cans of tuna in the pantry, i got a can of tuna and added cilantro, red onions, green peppers and mayo, mixed it up and stuffed it into a wheat pita. i also chopped up a green apple as a nice side to the meal. this dish is such a good addition to a lovely summer and gets me so excited for afternoons in the park, walking around downtown or just relaxing on the patio soaking in the summer breeze.

mid-week jam session

for like the past two weeks minus the bear has been my main topic of discussion. ever since i was 14 years old minus the bear has always been my favorite band. ive seen them live 4 times and they never seem to let me down. last friday they come to the house of blues and performed and on may 4 they dropped their new album OMNI which is just pure genius. OMNI has a different sound than their past albums but it still has that MTB touch and lyrical sound that makes you fall even hard in love with the band. my personal favorite on this album is "excuses" which bleeds a groove and vibe that is hard and yet melodic to the soul.

history final

Jacket: Old Navy Top: Forever21 Shorts: Alloy Wedges: Urban Outfitters Purse: Forever21
well i'm back to make a new post. this past week i've been swamped with work and studying for finals. today i had my history final and was totally stressing about it so i decided to dress up a bit to make me feel better and ease my mind. since its like a million degrees in the south i chose my favorite boyfriend shorts and a cute stripey top. i added a boyfriend jacket on top because my teacher tends to keep the classroom like an icebox and i threw on the suede wedges for a little extra edge.

spring is one of my favorite seasons. i love every thing about it from the beautiful weather to the flowers blooming everywhere. spring time also gives me an excuse to go out and shop for cute spring dresses. heels are a nice way to accessorize a great outfit, even though I'm whopping 5'9 nothing can stop my obsession for tall pumps or stacked wedges. here are just a few shoes that can accommodate any casual dress and fit perfectly with the spring weather

Suede cutout wedge shoe boots, $445
Lace-Up Wedge Bootie, $395

mid-week jam session

happy wednesday everyone! we all know what today is, that's right another day to feature an amazing artist. this weeks jam session is totally dedicated to my buddy Raff for getting me into the band Metronomy. i was introduced to this band last year and their cool, 80's sounding tunes just grabbed every inch of my attention. Nights Out is a pretty solid album that is quirky and dark in all the right places. Their low budget music videos are also lots of fun to watch. its obvious that Metronomy has a different take on music and it shows. if you dig this stuff then you have to check out their other albums and remixes, which contains the same weird style.

oh, how i've missed it so

oh my, it has been nearly a month since I've posted on my blog and i feel like I'm soooo behind. lately i've been traveling and enjoying this lovely spring weather. the only way i can explain the past month is through pictures.

what to wear: airport

airport

in a couple of days i will be leaving on vacation to California and even though i've been packed for weeks my biggest concern is what to wear on the plane. i want to be super comfortable but also look stylish. since the temperature on planes and airports are never predictable, layering is a total must. my go-to outfit when traveling exist of a cotton v-neck, stretchy, skinny denim, a light cardigan and scarf to keep you warm, if its a bit chilly, cute ballet flats, in case you have to remove your shoes, its easier to take off and put on and most importantly a chic tote bag to carry around makeup, magazines and other traveling essentials.

Sunny cotton V-neck cardigan, $160
DURAS ambient U-neck T-shirt, $53
J Brand 12" Pencil Skinny Jeans - Ink, $160
Roberto Cavalli - NPS242 (Rose) - Footwear, $355
Miu Miu Canvas and leather tote, $1,295

candlelight coffeehouse

since I've moved to San Antonio last year there have been a couple of cool, unique places i have visited. candlelight coffeehouse is one of my favorite places to go downtown when i just want to read or cram for an exam last minute. With indoor seating that makes you feel as if your back home in your grandmothers living room and the warm scent of lattes mixed with italian cream cake, its a real ease after a long day of school.
(vintage couches and local art in the dining room)

(it was a bit toasty outside but i couldn't resist the lovely outdoor seating)

(i came to a coffehouse to get a strawberry smoothie :])

mid-week jam session

as you may have noticed this is my first post on my new blog and i have decided to crown Wednesdays "mid-week jam session" day. a lot of my friends tell me that i have really good taste in music and that i discover the coolest bands. so every Wednesday i will share amazing artist that just make me totally happy. this weeks jam session is dedicated to one of my favorite bands, maps&atlases. their folk and experimental sound is filled with unique guitar notes and fast paced drum beats that make you want to get up and dance. i had the honor of meeting the lead singer and drummer after one of their shows and let me just say i was speechless, which doesn't normally happen.
